VP of Finance – Nonprofit Organization

A long-standing and growing nonprofit south of Boston is seeking a Vice President of Finance to oversee all financial operations across its multi-site organization, which provides essential services to individuals with developmental disabilities. This executive will be responsible for financial planning, reporting, compliance, and internal controls, while leading a team of five and working closely with the CEO, President, Board of Directors, and Finance Committee to support organizational strategy.

This is a full-time opportunity offering a base salary of $150,000–$165,000. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly close, financial reporting, cash flow management, forecasting, and annual budget process
     

  • Lead core accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and contract billing
     

  • Provide clear and timely financial presentations to senior leadership, the Board, and relevant committees
     

  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with nonprofit and public-sector financial requirements
     

  • Manage annual audits, tax filings, and relationships with banks, auditors, and other external partners
     

  • Develop, mentor, and supervise the finance team
     

  • Drive process improvements and support major system upgrades, including a significant accounting-system transition

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or CPA preferred
     

  • At least ten years of progressive finance leadership experience
     

  • Background in nonprofit or healthcare finance is highly preferred
     

  • Hands-on expertise with monthly close processes, financial reporting, and managing multi-location accounting operations
     

  • Experience supporting organizations with budgets around $30M+ and diverse funding streams, including state contracts
     

  • Strong communication skills, analytical ability, and team leadership experience
