Tax Analyst – Boston, MA – Investment Management
A leading multi asset manager with $10B in assets is looking to hire a Tax Analyst to their growing team. The Tax Analyst will be responsible for supporting the tax function for their hedge fund complex and 4 commitment-based venture funds. Interfacing with third-party providers, the Tax Analyst will play a pivotal role in ensuring the complex tax compliance reporting is appropriately reviewed and maintained from a risk, compliance and planning perspective.

Responsibilities:

Preparation of the federal, state, and local tax return work papers, partner tax allocations, estimates, and projections for all applicable entities within the organizations structure

Review of all tax adjustments including constructive sales, wash sales, straddles and PFIC identification etc.

Assist the firms 3rd party tax preparer and the fund’s administrator with the K-1 preparation and distribution process

Preparation and review funds federal, state and international tax returns

Preparation and review of funds tax compliance obligations, tax compliance filings, reviewing 1099 reporting

PTE elections and payments and related withholding tax filings and payments

Preparation and review of GP/Mgmt. Co. entities projections, estimates and year-end tax returns

Leverage and collaborate with external tax advisors

Stay abreast with tax law changes and identify potential tax issues

Research complex technical tax topics, prepare memorandums, and communicate research findings effectively to senior management in oral and written form

Assist with investor requests related to taxes
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required, preferably with a CPA or advanced degree in taxation (MST)

Must have a minimum of 2 busy seasons and ideally 3-5 years of experience with partnership tax issues as well as other relevant areas of federal, state and international taxation for investment managers, hedge funds and closed-end funds.

Knowledge of Subchapter K, financial products, wash sale and constructive sale rules, and aggregate allocations and the ability to read subscription documents and partnership agreements

Knowledge of ASC740 and its implications on different fund structures or domiciles

Understanding of trader vs. investor rules, incentive allocations and common hedge fund structures (i.e. master feeders)

Knowledge of required book to tax adjustments, PFICs and experience with managing data and critical inputs from administrators and other service providers

Must be very detail oriented with superior work ethic and have strong organizational skills

Demonstrate track record in a time-sensitive fast-paced environment; fast learner and strong team player with superior communication and interpersonal skills (oral & written)

Must have ability to work in an independent, self-directed manner and to perform equally as well in a team environment

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is a must
