Senior Tax Associate – Oakbrook, IL – Insurance
Our team is working with a leading insurance company with a focus on supplemental health, stop loss, and reinsurance, looking to hire a Senior Tax Associate for their growing team. This role is responsible for overseeing corporate tax accounting and compliance activities, including preparing tax provisions and disclosures, reviewing federal and state tax returns, and managing tax payment processes and reconciliations. The position serves as a key liaison with tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory authorities, ensuring timely responses to notices, audit requests, and evolving tax regulations. In addition, the Senior Tax Associate will prepare financial statements and analytical reporting for a captive insurance entity while coordinating audit documentation across multiple departments.

Responsibilities:

Prepare tax provisions and disclosures for statutory and GAAP consolidated companies.

Review of Federal and state tax returns and record return-to-provision adjustments

Review quarterly tax estimates and prepare state, federal, and intercompany tax payment requests; maintain reconciliation of tax payments.s

Respond to Federal and state tax notices promptly

Respond to third-party tax advisor and audit requests

Understand and document new tax regulations and communicate the impact on corporate business strategies

Prepare financial statements and analytics for a captive insurance company

Coordinate and track audit documentation from various departments and lead audit status meetings
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Tax Accounting/Finance or commensurate experience required

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or working toward a CPA designation preferred

2-4 years’ experience in statutory and GAAP insurance accounting preferred

Prior corporate tax experience preferred, with an understanding of book-to-tax adjustments and maintaining a deferred inventory preferred

Basic understanding of insurance company operations required

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word, is required

Experience with Excel pivot tables required

Experience in preparing financial statements required
