Part-Time Accounts Payable & Payroll Specialist – Biotech | Boston, MA
We are seeking a detail-oriented Part-Time Accounts Payable & Payroll Specialist to join a leading biotech organization based in Boston, MA. As a key member of the Finance Department, this role will support vendor payment processing, payroll administration, and month-end close activities. The ideal candidate will bring 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably within professional services.
This is an 8+ month contract offering $40–45/hr (DOE) for a 20–24 hour workweek. The role requires onsite presence in the Boston office 1–2 days per week.
Responsibilities
Accounts Payable (AP) Invoice Processing
- Review and verify vendor invoices for accuracy and completeness.
- Obtain necessary approvals and ensure proper matching to purchase orders and receivers.
- Enter invoice data into the accounting system accurately and in a timely manner.
Payment Processing
- Generate and review AP aging reports to monitor outstanding balances.
- Prepare and process vendor payments with accuracy and timeliness.
- Reconcile vendor statements and communicate with vendors to address discrepancies and respond to inquiries.
Payroll Processing
- Process bi-weekly payroll through Paychex, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
Month-End Close
- Assist with month-end close tasks, including cash reconciliations.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Review employee expense reports for accuracy and compliance with company policies.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with audits and support preparation/filing of 1099s.
- Support tax filings and regulatory compliance reporting as needed.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready financial documentation.
- Assist with expense reporting and vendor management.
- Perform general office duties such as opening, sorting, and scanning mail and invoices.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial or personal information.
