Family Law Associate Attorney – Lexington, MA

We are seeking candidates for a Family Law Associate Attorney position with a successful family law firm located in Lexington, MA. The practice handles both contested and uncontested cases, including divorce, child custody, support, and post-judgment modifications. They are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented associate with 2-5+ years of relevant experience who is interested in developing their practice within a collaborative and supportive team environment. The position requires a minimum billable requirement of 1,200 hours annually.

This is a permanent position that will pay $120,000 – $150,000 on a base salary (depending on experience).

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a family law caseload (typically 25–50 active matters) from initial filing through resolution, with support from senior attorneys and paralegals.

  • Draft and file legal documents, including complaints, motions, affidavits, discovery requests, settlement agreements, and pretrial memoranda.

  • Conduct legal research on Massachusetts family law issues, prepare legal memoranda, and assist in developing case strategy.

  • Represent clients in Probate and Family Court proceedings, including hearings, motion practice, depositions, mediations, and trials.

    • Counsel clients on matters including:

    • Divorce and legal separation

    • Child custody and parenting plans

    • Child support and alimony/spousal support

    • Property division

    • Post-judgment modifications

    • Paternity, adoption, guardianship, and restraining orders

  • Work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to ensure efficient case management and high-quality client service.

  • Participate in client consultations, intake meetings, and ongoing communications to keep clients informed and manage expectations.

  • Prepare for and attend mediations, settlement conferences, and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings.

  • Maintain well-organized case files, track deadlines, and ensure compliance with the Massachusetts Rules of Civil Procedure and Probate and Family Court rules.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

  • 2-5+ years of family law litigation experience preferred, or strong civil litigation experience with exposure to family law matters.

  • Experience handling contested cases, including drafting pleadings, managing discovery, and appearing in court.

  • Active license to practice law in Massachusetts, in good standing with the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers.

  • Admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts is a plus.
