Controller – Private Equity REIT in Fairfield County, CT (hybrid 3 days onsite)
Our client, an affordable housing development company based in LA that is backed by two institutional investors with equity committed across multiple development projects, is looking to add a Controller to their growing team.
This person would partner closely with the principals and external consultants, oversee the accounting and reporting for the firm and its project entities, manage investor and lender reporting, support audits and tax filings, and help establish strong controls and processes as the platform continues to scale. There’s also exposure to real estate development activity and complex joint venture structures.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and cash flow tracking for Passo and its subsidiary companies.
- Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Support grant compliance, funding draw requests, and financial reporting to lenders, investors, and governmental/quasi-governmental agencies.
- Assist with budget preparation, variance tracking and financial forecasting in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Manage the preparation and review of audit materials and tax returns (coordinate with external auditors and accountants).
- Establish and uphold internal controls, policies, and accounting best practices.
- Maintain accurate records for organizational and project-specific (real estate) entities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).
- 5+ years of accounting and finance experience; real estate development or affordable housing background preferred.
- Deep understanding of real estate accounting standards (GAAP), joint venture structures and equity waterfalls.
$125K – $140K base salary dependent on experience.
