Pay Rate: $85 – $100/hr (depending on experience)

We are currently seeking candidates for a Controller position located in Newark, NJ. The role is with an industry leading real estate and property management firm.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee full accounting and financial operations for a multi-entity real estate portfolio.
  • Maintain general ledgers; manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
  • Manage cash balances, bank reconciliations, and cash flow projections.
  • Enter and maintain leases in Yardi; manage tenant billing, rent collections, and bill-backs.
  • Process accounts payable, including invoice review, approvals, and payments.
  • Coordinate capital calls, ownership distributions, promotes, and management fees.
  • Monitor mortgages, refinances, lease expirations, and major contracts.
  • Support acquisitions and dispositions with financial analysis and reporting.
  • Coordinate payroll, salary allocations, and intercompany bill-backs.
  • Implement and manage financial systems and maintain organized financial records.
  • Serve as primary finance contact for ownership, lenders, and external accountants.
  • Support tax reporting, audits, and other ad hoc financial projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 8+ years of property accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of Yardi (required).
  • Experience managing multi-entity portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of A/R, A/P, budgeting, and cash flow.
  • Comfortable working with lenders, ownership groups, and external accountants.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
