Chief Building Engineer – South Florida 

A Real Estate firm located in South Florida is seeking a Chief Building Engineer to lead the day-to-day engineering and facilities operations for one of their commercial office properties. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for building performance, life-safety systems, team oversight, and tenant satisfaction.

This opportunity is ideal for a senior engineering professional who enjoys ownership of building operations while leading and developing on-site engineering staff.

Compensation: $110,000-115,000 + bonus  

Responsibilities

  • Lead, schedule, and manage the on-site engineering and facilities team
  • Maintain full operational responsibility for all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls, and critical infrastructure
  • Oversee Fire/Life Safety systems and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Perform and oversee preventative maintenance and emergency repairs
  • Monitor and maintain air conditioning equipment, pumps, valves, piping, and building controls
  • Respond to building incidents by securing affected areas, assessing root cause, and executing corrective action plans
  • Evaluate service requests and dispatch/manage outside vendors and contractors
  • Hire, train, and conduct performance reviews for engineering staff
  • Regularly inspect tenant spaces and common areas to maintain Class-A standards
  • Oversee tenant improvement and building projects, including competitive bidding and contractor oversight
  • Ensure compliance with Department of Buildings and City regulation

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial office or property management environments
  • Proven experience as a Chief Building Engineer or senior engineering lead
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to design, install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building systems
  • Construction knowledge to support building and tenant improvement projects
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • HVAC, ASME, EPA, or similar certifications strongly preferred
