A leading Boston-based private investment firm is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller, Fund Accounting to join its growing finance team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly respected investment platform with a long track record of partnering with successful middle-market companies across technology, healthcare, industrials, and business services.

The firm manages a significant portfolio of private equity investments and offers the opportunity to work closely with senior finance professionals, investment teams, tax, legal, and external fund administrators.

About the Role

The Assistant Controller will play a key role in the accounting, reporting, and operational finance functions supporting private equity funds, co-investment vehicles, and continuation funds. In addition to traditional fund accounting responsibilities, this position will have an important role in technology, automation, data analytics, and AI-driven process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage accounting and financial reporting for private equity funds, co-investment vehicles, and continuation funds
  • Oversee third-party fund administrators and ensure accurate general ledger activity, journal entries, reconciliations, and quarterly closings
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Manage capital calls, distributions, reserves, and investor reporting
  • Ensure compliance with partnership agreements, GAAP, and internal accounting policies
  • Support investment transaction accounting, including purchases, sales, and restructurings
  • Coordinate with external auditors and support annual partnership audits
  • Assist with tax reporting and regulatory compliance activities
  • Maintain strong internal controls and accounting documentation
  • Partner with investment, tax, legal, and finance teams on cross-functional initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate accounting and reporting processes
  • Leverage AI, data analytics, and emerging technologies to improve efficiency and scalability
  • Help foster a technology-forward, continuous-improvement culture within the finance organization

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA required
  • 6–10 years of experience in private equity, partnership accounting, or financial services
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and partnership accounting
  • Experience working with fund administrators, external auditors, and investment professionals
  • Experience with fund accounting systems and financial reporting platforms
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach
  • Exposure to automation, data analytics, AI, or financial technology is a plus

$140K – 160K base salary dependent on experience
