Position: Lead AI & Automation Engineer

We are currently seeking candidates for a Lead AI & Automation Engineer position located in Tewksbury, MA 01876. The position is with a rapidly growing and privately held industrial manufacturing company. The AI & Automation Engineer will work closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, evaluate tools, and implement solutions that reduce manual work and improve efficiency. The role offers the opportunity to lead the implementation of AI/ML functions across the company.
This is a full-time permanent position that will pay 140K – 170K base salary (depending on experience) plus bonus.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and implement AI and automation use cases across the business
- Improve estimating, material takeoffs, and quoting workflows
- Apply AI to production, quality, and maintenance processes
- Analyze operational data to identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks
- Support logistics, inventory, and planning improvements
- Build simulations or digital models to support process and facility planning
- Evaluate and pilot tools; support vendor selection when needed
- Help modernize systems and workflows so data and tools work together
- Train users and support adoption across teams
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (required)
- 2+ years of professional engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with AI, automation, or data-driven tools
- Comfortable working from engineering drawings and specifications
- Ability to work independently and deliver solutions end-to-end
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical teams
- Estimating or material takeoff automation experience
- Computer vision or inspection-related applications
- Predictive maintenance or reliability analytics
