Valuation & SEC Reporting Analyst – Boston, MA – BDC
A leading BDC focused on providing financing solutions to venture capital-backed and institutional-backed companies in a variety of technology, life sciences and sustainable and renewable technology industries is looking to hire a Valuation & SEC Reporting Analyst to their growing team. The Valuation & SEC Reporting Analyst will assist in the valuation of investment portfolios within the client’s (“Small Business Administration”) funds & affiliated private credit funds. Responsibilities will include valuation functions over their warrant and equity portfolio including gathering, organizing, and analyzing data for quarterly portfolio valuations and drafting supporting schedules. The Valuation & SEC Reporting Analyst will also be responsible for preparing the SEC quarterly Form 10-Q, annual 10-K filings and other ad-hoc SEC filings.
Essential Responsibilities:

Data collection and analysis to determine quarterly investment portfolio valuations by coordinating with deal, legal and credit teams.

Accurate tracking of all M&A, Liquidation, IPO, and legal activity that impacts the valuation of investments.

Calculating and recording journal entries for all valuation related transactions, including valuation of warrants earned at the time of loan origination.

Gain working knowledge of Qval (system used for equity and warrant valuations), Sentry (system used for loan servicing and debt valuations), D365 (accounting system) and Workiva (platform used for SEC filings).

Provide all valuation related disclosures and tables for Board of Directors’ meeting presentations, quarterly and annual SEC filings, including preparation of Schedule of Investments.

Assist with Board-mandated independent reviews of investment valuations.

Stay informed about valuation trends in venture capital and private debt markets and assess portfolio impact.

Facilitate audits of valuation controls/procedures and results for internal auditors (SOX) and external auditors (financial reporting).

Prepare quarterly SBA valuation workpapers & analysis using SBIC Valuation Guidelines.

Perform general ledger accounting close in D365, prepare account reconciliations, ensure correct accounting and valuations under GAAP and SBA Guidelines.
SEC Reporting

Preparation of quarterly financial statement disclosures for the 10-Q and 10-K using Workiva. This role requires coordination with valuation, legal, investor relations and core accounting departments.

Assist with tracking SEC and FASB disclosure requirements, drafting disclosures for the 10-Q and 10-K for changes and updating narrative disclosures.
Qualifications:

CPA or advanced degree in Finance or Accounting preferred

2-3 years in audit or accounting role with exposure to Level 3 investment valuation and SEC reporting preferred.

VALUATION EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED

Professional experience in a financial services environment is preferred.

Strong analytical capabilities/ understanding of US GAAP/ Familiarity with public reporting.

Professional or significant personal experience using Microsoft Excel to consolidate and analyze data.
