Senior Finance Associate – Boston, MA – Real Estate Private Equity
A leading private equity firm with close to $170B in AUM is looking for a Senior Finance Associate within their Real Estate practice. This particular practice has invested and committed more than $7.5 billion of equity in over 550 assets across multiple sectors. The Senior Finance Associate will be responsible for accounting and reporting oversight for a collection of direct real estate investments, as well as providing support for general fund level reporting functions.
Responsibilities:

Ensuring proper accounting and reporting for a collection of real estate investments on a monthly and quarterly basis, including review of quarterly promote and management fee calculations

Engaging and communicating directly with property and Joint Venture operators on a regular basis to discuss property operations and accounting conclusions

Organizing the quarterly valuation process for all real estate property investments, including the coordination and analysis of internal valuation reviews and external appraisals

Coordinating with the fund administrator on a variety of tasks, including the set-up of future real estate investments and the quarterly and annual financial statement review process

Interacting with and supporting the team regarding portfolio investments and finance related issues

Providing oversight to the Finance Associate on tasks, including performing a weekly cash availability analysis and evaluating loan drawdowns and repayments

Executing and reviewing capital activity transactions and ensuring completeness and accuracy

Reviewing property and investment budget submissions and investigating budget to actual variances

Working with the team to coordinate the annual audit, annual tax and quarterly REIT compliance, providing information as requested and maintaining audit reports throughout the year

Obtaining and reviewing minority investment financial reporting

Maintaining the integrity of portfolio accounting systems and general ledger records

Analyzing and researching current industry and accounting guidance and its applicability to the real estate portfolio and the accounting and reporting process

Participating in special projects and duties as assigned, including support of the Company’s operational due diligence process and regulatory reporting process among other initiatives
Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. CPA designation is strongly preferred

Two to four years of relevant accounting experience within the real estate industry (preferably some Big 4 public accounting experience and/or experience working at a real estate investment manager)

Proficiency with real estate investment accounting/industry issues, with a firm understanding of real estate valuation, property operations, and financial reporting matters

General understanding of the tax aspects of private real estate investments

Knowledge and demonstrated interest of financial markets and products

Proficiency in Yardi is preferred, but not required

Excellent communication skills (email and verbal) plus demonstrated confidence and ability to communicate with all levels of management
