Senior Accountant – Real Estate – Providence, RI
We are seeking a skilled Senior Accountant to join a highly successful real estate firm based in Providence, RI. In this role, you will manage complex transactions across multiple entities, oversee the entire intercompany accounting process, including the review and verification of intercompany charges, resolution of out-of-balance items, and intercompany account settlements. The ideal candidate will bring 3+ years of accounting experience within the real estate sector, along with expertise in intercompany reconciliation.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity offering up to $40/hour (depending on experience) within a 40-hour work week. The position requires onsite work for 5 days per week, with a transition to 4 days onsite.
Responsibilities:
- Review and verify the details of intercompany requests, both incoming and outgoing.
- Determine the appropriate intercompany accounting details (e.g., GL accounts, Cost Objects, Transaction Type, Tax Code) as needed.
- Post intercompany journal entries for cross-company enabled locations and single-location entries when not cross-company enabled.
- Collaborate with relevant accounting contacts for intercompany transactions, including loans, interest, and dividend-related transactions.
- Monitor and provide status updates on pending intercompany requests, ensuring timely action by the appropriate parties.
- Prepare accruals for recurring transactions, such as acquisitions in process and cash in transit.
- Ensure timely expense recognition for year-end intercompany-related accruals.
- Coordinate with departments and the Executive Director for settlement requirements.
- Manage payments and collections related to intercompany transactions.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and cash management.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date reconciliations of balance sheet accounts.
- Reconcile sub-ledger to general ledger account balances.
- Assemble and review financial statements.
- Evaluate internal controls, including conducting risk assessments and reviews of risk areas.
- Perform monthly balance sheet, income statement, and budget variance analysis.
- Research and document variance notes.
- Assist in budget preparation and review with management.
- Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules.
- Assist with audit preparations.
- Mentor and support the training and development of the accounting team.
- Serve as a resource for property and facilities management staff on real estate accounting policies, procedures, and software.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience, with a focus on intercompany or real estate accounting.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong reconciliation skills, financial analysis, and basic accounting principles.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel.
- Experience with property management software, such as RealPage or Yardi.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
