Senior Accountant – Real Estate – Providence, RI
We are seeking candidates for a Senior Accountant position with a highly successful real estate firm located in Providence, RI. This position will be responsible for complicated transactions for multiple entities, end-to-end processes of intercompany accounting, such as reviewing and verifying intercompany charges, reviewing and resolving out of balance/intercompany items, and conducting intercompany account settlements. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of accounting experience in real estate and intercompany reconciliation experience.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity that will pay $40/hr (depending on experience) within a 40-hour work week. This position will be onsite 5 days/week and will transition to 4 days/week onsite.
Responsibilities:
- Verify and review details (both sending and receiving) of intercompany requests received
- Determine appropriate intercompany accounting details (e.g. GL accounts, Cost Objects,
Transaction Type, Tax Code, etc.), when required - Post Intercompany journal entries on both sides for cross-company enabled locations and to one location if not cross-company enabled
- Work with appropriate accounting contact persons for intercompany transactions (e.g., loans,
interest and dividend related transactions) - Monitor pending Intercompany requests (either Sending or Receiving) and provides status
updates to parties who will need to action such requests - Prepare accruals for recurring transactions (e.g., acquisitions in process and cash in transit)
- Ensure timely expense recognition (on both sides) for year-end Intercompany related accruals
- Coordinate with department and Executive Director for any settlement requirements
- Prepare payments and collections relating to intercompany transactions
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations/cash management
- Maintain accurate, up to date reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
- Reconcile sub-ledger to general ledger account balances
- Assemble and review financial statements
- Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
- Perform monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial
position/budget variance analysis - Research and record variance notes
- Assist in the design and preparation of budgets for review by management
- Maintain and reconcile fixed assets schedules
- Assist with audit preparations
- Mentor and assist with the training and development of the accounting
- Act as a resource for property and facilities management staff on real estate accounting
policies, procedures, and software
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required
- 3-5 years of accounting experience required
- Experience in intercompany accounting or real estate accounting required
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Reconciliation, Basic financial analysis, Basic accounting principles,
- Strong Excel skills
- Proficient in property management software, such as RealPage/Yardi
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
