Junior Accountant – Law Firm – Boston, MA
We are seeking candidates for a Junior Accountant position with a prestigious law firm located in Boston, MA. This position will be responsible for processing all incoming payment activity and ensuring the timely and accurate processing of all receipts and revenue postings to the general ledger on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will have 1+ year of accounting experience with strong understanding of accounts payable.
This is a 3-month contract position that will pay $30/hr (depending on experience). This position is required to be onsite 5 days/week in the Boston office.
Responsibilities:
- Processes daily payment requests, checks, wires and ACH transactions in accordance with the firm’s procedures. This includes preparing accounts payable checks for partner signatures and distribution or mailing of checks, processing petty cash requests and expense reimbursement forms.
- Maintains new and existing vendor information, includes gathering W-9’s from new vendors and verifying all vendor information is accurate and up-to-date
- Reconcile all corporate cards on a monthly basis and ensures the corporate account remains in good standing.
- Posts journal entries for payroll and all payroll related accounts: 401(k), transit/parking, Flexchoice, and other benefits. This includes initiating and/ or releasing internal transfers for all payroll related expenses.
- Maintains fixed asset listing and sales and use tax spreadsheets.
- Ensures company policies, processes, and procedures are clearly defined and documented. Assists with questions relating to vendor inquiries, vendor payments made and general ledger coding.
- Processes annual 1099 reports and forms.
- Processes all incoming payments and records payments in accounting software. Balances bank deposits to accounting system and verifies accurate coding on checks for deposit.
- Verifies Trust department transfers of funds for legal and other services and researches check payments and online deposits to firm accounts. Reviews client payment account for activity and posts transfers to operating account for revenue posting.
- Posts all revenue to general ledger for both Inside and Outside Trustee Fees. Posts and records Outside Trustee Fee receipt and distributes internal quarterly Outside Trustee Fee reports. Reviews and posts all revenue related to Family Office.
- Reviews Unapplied Receipts accounts for overpayments and reconciliation.
- Posts charge-off requests for client receivables.
- Perform routine billing tasks; finalizes and edits timekeeper time, prints pre-bills and final invoices as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business is required
- 1+ year of experience in Accounts Payable and knowledge of accounting and financial management principles at a level normally acquired through completion of an accounting degree or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to demonstrate impeccable integrity in personal and fiduciary matters.
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate with a diverse group of attorneys and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
- Ability to assist in account reconciliations and end of month/year balancing.
