Interim Controller

We are currently seeking candidates for an Interim Controller opportunity with a food and beverage manufacturer located in Cranston, RI. The Interim Controller will be responsible for managing month/quarter/year-end closing processes, handling consolidations, overseeing accounting operations (AR, AP, GL, payroll, and pricing), and performing reporting (budgeting, forecasting).

The ideal candidate will have 10-15+ years of hands-on accounting and finance experience, including at least 5 years of experience in a Controller-level position. Previous experience working in food manufacturing is required.

This is a 1-2+ month contract opportunity, paying $80-$95/hour (depending on experience).

This role supports a hybrid work model (on-site 3 days/week and remote 2 days/week).

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in compliance with US GAAP.
  • Manage the consolidation of financials for multiple subsidiaries, including intercompany eliminations and reconciliation of balances.
  • Manage bank debt, including quarterly debt covenants and compliance schedules.
  • Lead the accounting team in handling general ledger functions, accounts payable, accounts receivable, pricing, payroll, and other day-to-day accounting operations.
  • Provide insights into financial performance, variance analysis, and budget vs. actual reporting.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to meet reporting requirements, including quarterly investor updates, performance reporting, and budgeting/forecasting cycles.
  • Oversee operations related to treasury, business insurance, and employee benefit renewals.
  • Leverage ERP software to streamline accounting functions and reporting processes. Implement improvements to ensure the system’s efficiency and effectiveness across subsidiaries.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and internal control policies, including managing audits and tax filings for the company and its subsidiaries. Ensure the completion of food safety certification.
  • Manage additional key responsibilities, including repack operations, truck leases, monthly inventory, and repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Work cross-functionally with operations, procurement, and other departments to provide financial insights and ensure alignment of business goals with financial performance.

Qualifications:

  • MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 10-15+ years of hands-on accounting and finance experience, and 5+ years of experience in a Controller-level position.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing accounting, and strong experience working in perishable goods industry.
  • Experience working with ERP accounting systems and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and drive process improvements.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, consolidations, and intercompany accounting.
