Interim Controller – Manufacturing – Providence, RI

We are seeking a skilled Interim Controller to support a thriving food manufacturing company located south of Providence, RI. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience closing books, consolidating financials, and managing multi-entity operations. Experience with food manufacturing is a must.

This is a 2-month contract offering $80–$100/hour (based on experience) for a 40-hour workweek. The role requires onsite presence three days per week in the company’s office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Present financial results, forecasts, and strategic updates during quarterly board meetings.
  • Lead financial reporting, forecasting, and the annual budgeting process.
  • Manage treasury operations, business insurance, and employee benefit renewals.
  • Oversee bank debt management, including quarterly debt covenants and compliance schedules.
  • Supervise the annual financial audit and food safety certification process.
  • Develop and monitor key sales and operational performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Direct accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, and pricing functions.
  • Manage the company’s ERP system and oversee IT-related activities.
  • Oversee operational areas, including repack operations, truck leases, inventories, and repair/maintenance tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
  • Experience:
  • 10+ years of progressive financial leadership, with at least 5 years in a Controllership role.
  • Expertise in manufacturing accounting; experience with perishable goods is a strong plus.
  • Proven ability to manage financial operations across multiple business units.
  • Food manufacturing experience
  • Skills:
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems; advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate finance, accounting standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial data clearly.
  • Strategic mindset with the flexibility to handle tactical responsibilities as needed.
