Interim Controller
We are currently seeking candidates for an Interim Controller opportunity with a well-respected non-profit organization located in Dedham, MA. The Interim Controller will play a key role in managing the organization’s accounting and finance operations. The Interim Controller will lead the annual audit process, support fundraising efforts, and prepare reports (debt, budgets, etc.). The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of accounting experience, and strong experience working within the non-profit industry.
This is a 3-4+ month contract opportunity, paying between $70-$80/hour (depending on experience).
Responsibilities:
- Manage all facets of accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
- Oversee and coordinate the annual audit process and work closely with external auditors to ensure compliance, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Create and manage the annual budget, collaborating with department heads to maintain financial stability and align with the organization’s strategic objectives.
- Maintain and improve the ERP system (Blackbaud) to ensure efficient and accurate financial reporting.
- Partner with internal teams to support fundraising activities. Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of donations and grants.
- Develop quarterly financial reports concerning the institution’s debt, ensuring adherence to all debt covenants.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant regulations and best practices in non-profit financial management.
- Provide financial analysis and support for strategic planning efforts.
- Assist in preparing financial statements and other reports for the Board of Directors.
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 8+ years of accounting experience, and strong experience in non-profit industry.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and non-profit accounting principles.
- Previous experience leading audits, managing budgets, and supporting fundraising efforts.
- Great analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Blackbaud or similar ERP systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
