Estate Settlement Advisor – Boston, MA

A well-established fiduciary services firm is seeking a highly skilled Estate Settlement Advisor to support Trustees and clients with complex estate settlement matters. This role requires an ability to work independently, adapt to different working styles, and effectively manage a variety of client and Trustee needs.

The Estate Settlement Advisor will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of estate settlement, requiring a deep understanding of trusts, estate planning, investments, probate, and tax laws. This position demands strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a client-centric approach, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and with the highest level of professionalism. This role reports to the Head of Fiduciary Services.

This is a permanent opportunity offering $150k-$175k depending on experience. Candidates MUST be located in MA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estate Settlement Management: Oversee all aspects of estate administration, including asset valuation, collection, and transfer; debt and liability payments; asset distribution and trust funding; and preparation of inventories and probate accounts.
  • Project Coordination: Develop and maintain tracking systems to ensure estate settlement tasks are completed efficiently and on schedule.
  • Tax Compliance & Planning: Prepare federal and state estate or inheritance tax returns, analyze estate tax planning documents, and generate estate tax projections for Trustees and fiduciary professionals.
  • Probate & Accounting: Manage the probate accounting process, working with internal teams and external counsel to ensure timely submissions to the Probate Court.
  • Gift Tax Support: Participate in the preparation and review of complex gift tax returns.
  • Multitasking & Organization: Handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize responsibilities, and coordinate processes to meet deadlines.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with internal departments and adhere to established procedures to deliver high-quality service to clients and Trustees.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. with extensive experience in estate settlement within a law firm or investment office.
  • Member of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
  • 10+ years of estate settlement experience.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and specialized accounting/portfolio management systems (e.g., SunGard’s AddVantage, CCH Axcess).
  • Ability to communicate with poise and professionalism in both internal and external interactions.
