Corporate Controller – Boston, MA – Commercial Real Estate
An integrated investment management company that executes various commercial real estate strategies on behalf of family office investors is looking to hire a Corporate Controller to their growing team! The Corporate Controller will work closely with the local service providers, but also liaise regularly with the Family Office team, based in Boston, MA. As the senior finance and accounting professional, the senior team will rely on the integrity, creativity and candor of the successful candidate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for all investment vehicles
- Performance reporting: Build and run investment-level waterfall and performance calculations; support senior management with Operating Company’s P&L and balance sheet
- Review and approve investor service billing monthly
- Board Meetings- Review and approve board of director books on a quarterly basis
- Tax Compliance: Demonstrate a deep understanding of tax regulations and work closely with tax consultants to ensure accurate and timely tax filings for the investment funds and related entities
- Oversee preparation and filing of any periodic, quarterly, and annual local, state-level, or federal reports for investment holdings and funds
- Investor Relations: Oversees internal and external reporting; key point of contact for investor inquiries related to fund accounting and financial reporting matters. Provide clear and concise communication to address investor queries and concerns
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance fund accounting processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting. Review and approve investor service billing monthly
- Audits and Compliance: Coordinate and oversee external audits to ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulatory guidelines, and company policies
- Performance Analysis: Analyze fund performance and investment returns to provide insights and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making
- Consistently demonstrate use of tact and discretion
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in fund accounting at a top accounting/consulting shop, with at least two years working for a real estate investment manager or real estate investment group

Strong knowledge of tax principles and regulations related to real estate investments, including partnership taxation and compliance

Proficiency in financial reporting, GAAP accounting, and investment fund structures

Experience with real estate accounting software (Yardi) and ERP systems
