Job Title: Chief Building Engineer ($110k-$130k base + bonus)
Location: Boston, MA (Mixed-Use High Rise)

A leading global real estate investment, development, and management firm located in downtown Boston is looking to hire a Chief Building Engineer. The position will play a pivotal role in maintaining commitment to a secure, efficient, and high-functioning work environment at our prestigious mixed-use building.

The Chief Building Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of all building systems and equipment, managing the engineering team, and maintaining excellent relationships with tenants and vendors. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will lead efforts to meet or exceed performance expectations, uphold safety protocols, and ensure the building is operating at peak performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and guide the maintenance of the physical plant, including chillers, cooling towers, boilers, MUA, sprinklers, fire alarms, elevators, pumps, EMS, lighting controls, and roof systems.
  • Utilize software-based tenant request systems to manage work orders and troubleshoot recurring building system issues.
  • Conduct regular inspections of building systems and equipment, including lower levels and roof areas, to identify and resolve issues; prepare long-term capital plans.
  • Ensure effective scheduling and execution of preventive maintenance (PM) programs.
  • Prepare operating and capital budgets in collaboration with the General Manager.
  • Lead the management of capital and special projects, ensuring compliance with regulations and proper documentation.
  • Maintain accurate record-keeping of building information and operational manuals.
  • Oversee energy management systems and track utilities.
  • Act as a point of contact for building emergencies, on call as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in office building operations with hands-on expertise in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent; trade school certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or life safety systems preferred; Facility-related college degree or Journeyman license a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and basic accounting and budgeting; strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and review architectural and MEP plans.
  • Strong leadership skills to recruit, hire, and train building engineers.
  • Experience in coordinating with third-party management and overseeing tenant work.
