Business Intelligence Engineer – Insurance – Boston, MA
We are currently conducting a search for a Business Intelligence Engineer with a client of ours who is a growing insurance company in the Boston area. The Business Intelligence Engineer will be mainly responsible for expanding data analytics capabilities by transforming data into insights through the adoption of cloud computing and modern data warehousing solutions.
This candidate must be exceptional strong experience with tools such as SAP Business Objects and Microsoft Power BI.
This candidate must be able to go into the Boston office on a hybrid model.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret complex business requirements and reverse engineering Business Objects and Tableau reports/dashboards into Power BI solutions
- Take ownership of the design, development, testing and support of our client’s enterprise business intelligence solutions based on business requirement specifications
- Investigate technical solutions and making recommendations aligned with industry best-practices
- Troubleshoot data issues by writing SQL queries
- Routinely conducting performance analyses and tuning of reporting systems
- Preserve, support, and improve existing dashboards and reports
- Generating routine and ad-hoc reports based on business requirements
- Ensure end-users are informed about business intelligence tool problems
- Provide production support when needed
- Ensure availability as an on-call support engineer, off-hours and weekends at times
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (IT, computer science, software engineering, or related field is preferred)
- 4-7 professional years of experience working with reporting tools (design, development of tabular reports, charts, graphs, dashboards)
- Must have hands-on knowledge of modern BI platforms/tools such as Power BI and Tableau
- Must have hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop/Service, Power BI Report Builder (for building paginated reports)
- Must have hands-on experience working with DAX queries building dynamic measures, and building Power BI data models
- Strong knowledge of Row Level Security and Object Level Security in Power BI and experience in configuring them, and the life cycle of PBIX/PBIT/RDL files
- Strong knowledge with Power BI Workspaces, Datasets and Dashboards
- Should have experience with Business Objects (4.2 and higher), Desktop Intelligence, Universe Designer, Web Intelligence, Dashboards
- Strong working knowledge of building self-service BI experiences
- Professional experience writing and debugging advanced SQL queries in SQL Server, Snowflake or similar platforms
- Basic understanding of a modern programming language like C# is a plus
- Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and data mining is a plus
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy with excellent research and analytical skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to be flexible, and demonstrates passion for learning new skills and growth in their professions
