Assistant Development Controller – Boston, MA – Private Equity
Our team is working with a leading real estate private equity firm based in Boston to hire an Assistant Controller within their growing development team. The Assistant Controller for Development/Special Projects will contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of cost control practices and methods supporting the successful financial execution of an array of high- profile development projects. Additionally, this role will participate closely in the developer’s corporate finance operations and initiatives.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Development Accounting and Cost Control:

Collaborate with various Development Group disciplines to devise a robust set of methodologies and procedures governing how development costs are budgeted, processed, tracked, and reported to stakeholders

Contribute to the implementation/setup of a job costing software program

Work closely with the Fund/Separate Account accounting team to ensure alignment on cost categorization within financial statements, actual-to-budget status, etc

Respond to frequent and varied requests for information from investors and consultants, concerning project financial status, budget-to-actual inquires, etc

Oversee the financial reporting efforts of third-party development property managers

Review monthly and quarterly financial statements and reports, working closely with Asset Managers and the Portfolio Management team

Assist in the preparation of asset level budgets and reforecasts
Corporate Finance:

Assist in the compilation of group wide corporate budgets/reforecasts

Condense financial information into meaningful takeaways for senior management

Create, maintain, and present management and incentive fee calculations

Contribute to fund accounting/reporting for employee investment vehicles, as applicable General ledger setup, review and analysis, ensuring compliance with GAAP or other bases of accounting where necessary

Assist with internal and external audits

Prepare periodic tax projections and assist in year-end tax preparation process

Partake in ad hoc projects relating to the above
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited university

CPA is preferred
-
Six of more years of professional accounting experience

Commercial real estate experience required

Development/construction experience is strongly preferred

“Big 4” or other public accounting firm experience is strongly preferred

Previous supervisory experience required

Strong Microsoft Excel abilities (e.g., building out and maintaining complex templates for cost tracking)

Experience with job costing software is strongly preferred

Familiarity with data centers is highly beneficial
