Accounting Specialist – Biotech – Burlington, MA

We are seeking candidates for a Staff Accountant position with a leading biotechnology company located near Burlington, MA. This position will manage accounting principles, possess excellent analytical skills, and be adept at managing financial transactions with accuracy and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of accounting experience within biotechnology preferably and familiarity with ERP systems like Microsoft Great Plains (GP) is preferred but not required. 

This is a 3-4+ month contract that will pay $40-45/hr (depending on experience) within a 40-hour work week. This position is required to be onsite 5 days per week in their office. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately and efficiently process vendor invoices, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

  • Reconcile purchase orders with receipts to ensure correct invoice matching, and promptly resolve any discrepancies.

  • Professionally engage with vendors to address record updates, invoice inquiries, payment statuses, and related issues.

  • Timely prepare and process payments via checks, ACH transfers, and wire payments.

  • Monitor bank activity and post additional entries, such as payroll auto-debits and bank fees.

  • Review and manage accounts receivable billings and collections.

  • Collaborate with team members during quarterly reviews and annual audits to address financial audit inquiries.

  • Maintain organized, up-to-date transaction records, journal entries, and reconciliations, ensuring alignment with the trial balance.

  • Prepare month-end reconciliations for accounts including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, and prepaid expenses, and investigate and resolve discrepancies.

  • Undertake ad hoc projects and provide financial analyses as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 4+ years of accounting experience in full-cycle AP/AR processing.

  • Experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical is preferred, but not required

  • Familiarity with ERP systems (Great Plains preferred but not required).

  • Strong understanding of account reconciliation and general ledger adjustments.

  • Proficient in Excel for reporting and data analysis.

  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage vendor relationships and resolve discrepancies efficiently.

  • Experience with transitioning vendors to electronic payment methods.
